I agree with Buly, must have moving oil over the temp sensor to keep its heat status "updated" continuously.  What I did was where I used a 90 deg elbow to return oil to the block (the golden looking 90 deg fitting on the top front of the engine block in the photo).  I then drilled and tapped the 90 deg fitting (you can't see it on the other side of the fitting) for the temperature sensor.  It is sensing the oil as it flows up from my oil cooler and just before it goes into the block.

Wendell, you can not get oil temp. from the oil pressure port. You need oil
flow over the sender.. Find another location.
