 Hi! Rusty
I keep on reading about your trials & tribulations regarding your engine, what was the original problem?

I initially attempted to climbout at 91 mph (or what ever it was that Van say was best rate of climb) - then I found out all his performance figures were for CS props.  I found out by experimenting that my best rate of climb (at that time) was 120 MPH IAS - which was exactly what Tracy said he had found.

Hi Ed,

Did you ever revisit the best rate of climb speed after you put the C drive on?  My RV-8 was like every other standard fixed pitch RV, meaning that it climbed best at about 120 mph.  For some reason, the RV-3 has always climbed better at lower speeds, particularly since the C drive has been installed.   Tracy said he noticed that his best climb rate was at a lower speed after the C drive as well.

FWIW, I believe my best climb rate is currently in the 80-90 mph range.  Once the engine is trustworthy again, I'll do some final testing on this.  I want to find the best speed, as well as perhaps trying a small amount of flaps in climb.  The flaps never helped the RV-8 climb, but it's worth a try.  I'm going to get that 3000 fpm one way or another :-)

Cheers,
Rusty (about to be hammered by an impressive line of thunderstorms)
