The slot is perfectly straight. No taper at all. If you stand a new or
near
new apex seal on end in the slot, the exposed end should not move more
than
(about) 3/16" total. New slot and new seal gives nearly no movement. The
3/16"
would be end of life span.

Just went out and stuck an apex seal in the 3 slots of the undamaged rotor
per Lynn's method above.  The seal could be move 4/16" of an inch from one
extreme to the other in all the slots - so appears the rotors are past their
useful life (as if there weren't other indications of that {:>)).  Good
little rule of thumb.  Thanks Lynn
