Don't know, Tim. The conventional wisdom is that NA engines (I have a turbo
block but no turbo) are really not susceptible to detonation. Besides that
the B9EGV is a racing plug (states it on the box) and of course they are
designed to run much colder than a normal plug. However, I could find no
evidence of FOD other than that caused by the broken piece of apex seal.

Ed is it possible detonation caused this? If I understand correctly you
had the wrong plugs installed, perhaps a heat range issue with the
plugs. Actually this would then be preignition.
