Thanks to you both for the info. I imagine this is a float type, like the oil level sender (which is a monster). I've seen some perfectly usable senders of this type, with shrouds that prevent slosh from giving you a false reading (again like the oil level sender). That's probably what I'll have to go with if I put it in the expansion tank.
