Howdy Todd,
Whatever you do, DON'T mount them on the motor. While not having any direct experience with LSI coils, the Mazda coils don't like heat.
Moreover, Nissan also have terrible problems with the individual coils that sit between the cams dirrectly on top of the plugs.
I'm currently doing a CA18 in a Slivia 180SX for a guy. One coil failed the other day. So they are all going, and I will run leads to coils mounted on the firewall away from the heat and in a cool breeze. The main problem is heat soak after the engine is shut down. An importer mate of mine has had the same trouble with his RB26 GTR coils.
Heat is also the main cause of the Mazda coils going belly up. The balast resistor burns out. I believe at least two people on the lists have had this problem recently. Trick is to keep the the coils cool.
BTW, what sort of engine management system are you using??
Anything electrical will last a LO longer if it is kept cool. So mount your coils on a heat sink and duct cool air onto it.
