I think them Swedes is just a clever bunch.  Actually the old 93 was
very much like an airplane in a lot of ways, since that's where Saab
got their start.  I don't know how the old Cessna pull handle was
hooked up.  BTW, you are also getting a reversal of the "pull".  When
you pull the handle, you push whatever you are moving.  It may have
just been their way to get the right direction.

When you pull on the handle (which is still attached to the wire), the
free end of the shroud is pushed toward the fixed end of the wire, but
with more force than trying to push the wire out of the shroud.  This
won't work unless there is some curvature or extra length in the control
cable, and it has to be free to move.
