Hey, Rusty.... I use Acetone, as it is readily available at most hardware stores, etc. If there is foam underneath the fiberglass, however you can't use acetone, as the acetone will go through the smallest of pinholes and attack the foam. Does a great job of cleaning any grease or oils from fiberglass. It evaporates very rapidly.  I highly recommend you wear gloves and not drink it, however.  Paul Conner

The whole cleaning thing seems to be a non-issue.  I removed my stainless heat shield stuff, cut out the old scoop, then sprayed the whole cowl with some Purple Power stuff that I used on my RX-7 motor mounts before.  Spray it on, and hose it off.  Just that simple.  The cowl is squeaky clean now, but I will hit it with some Brakleen after I taper the inside edge a bit tomorrow.  It won't be much of a scarf, just enough to hopefully keep the cloth from having to make too much of a turn .  Fortunately, the inside of the cowl is unrestricted, so it doesn't matter that it gets a bit thicker away from the edge.  A little extra weight, but not my biggest problem.

Since I'm off the rest of the week, my overly optimistic goal is to have the cowl done by Sunday.  That won't really leave much more than break in time, and some tuning, then back to flight testing (in gliding distance for about 10 hours).  I have no idea how I'm going to do the scoop, but I have to go get the Sonerai project Thursday, so that will give me about 13 hours of driving to think about it.

Cheers,
Rusty (close, but not close enough)
