I pulled the side cover off my '95 GL1500 and measured the alternator and it measures 5.5" in length. I only have 5" between the crank pulley and firewall. Looks like it could possibly work for those with more space though. =20 Mark S. =20 Mark, The reason for the dampener is that Honda links the alternator direct to the crank and spins it the opposite direction as the crank to offset a little of the torque reaction of the engine being longitudinally mounted. The late model Goldwing alternator = is out of the question for me.  I pulled the side cover off my ’95 = GL1500 and measured the alternator and it measures 5.5” in length.  I = only have 5” between the crank pulley and firewall.  Looks like it could = possibly work for those with more space though.
