John, these are EXACTLY my sentiments. I'm sincerely grateful to Marvin for hosting this list for as long as he has. Never once has he requested anything for his trouble, nor do I believe he would accept any compensation if you offered it. I really feel like I've grown to know many of the people on this list, and regard them as friends. Unfortunately, I just can't overlook the advantages of using a web forum, and I believe it's time to move on to a new format. I just can't see any disadvantage to doing that, though I expect that some folks will resist change. I for one am ready to make a change, and have made the official first post in the new forum. I even found "my" icon there :-) Thanks for making this an option John. Rusty (change can be good, unless I only have John to talk to) Uh.... there are some downsides, like 5-10 times the trouble for the 70% of the world that are stuck with dialup (including me). I've tried several forums like that & I find them so slow & frustrating to view that I never go back. I can see about 30 headers at a time with regular email & email list delivery. It's really frustrating to me if I have to go through multiple clicks each time I want to see another block of maybe 5 headers, wait for the page to load, then more clicks to see messages, wait for the page to load, then the screen shows 60-80% framing detail instead of 70-80% info with regular email.
Am I the only one with these problems?
With regular email & list servers, I only need to get online & click 'get messages' to get all the info I'm interested in, instead of having to navigate to 8 or 10 different web sites every day just to check on whether there has been a new post.
If everyone wants to move to the new format I'll follow, but it won't be fun...
