Rusty,
One of the well known Mazda parts suppliers USA has a very comprehensive inventory of photos, depicting what goes with what!
This is known to be a problem with the uninitiated.

Subject: [FlyRotary] front cover o-ring?

Greetings,

I went out to finish putting on the front cover, but didn't get far.  Attached are several pics of the front housing where the o-ring goes.  One shows just the housing.  One shows the old o-ring and nylon backing washer.   The other shows the washer that came in the overhaul kit.

Previously, I had the thicker o-ring with backing washer, and the front cover used a gasket.  The kit instructions say to not use the gasket (and none is included), since the included o-ring is thinner.  The instructions call the nylon washer version 89 and later, so it appears that's what I have, though I thought I had already determined that my front housing was an 87-88.  Just another mystery.

Anyway, the kit instructions say- "Choose the correct o-ring for your application: small diameter for 86-88 models, larger diameter for 89 and later".  The o-ring in the picture is the only one I see, except for a tension bolt o-ring that wasn't needed.  As you can see, this doesn't fit the milled recess in the housing, though I suppose it might still work OK.  In the video, the o-ring that Bruce installs fits in the outer diameter of the recess.  Is this the correct o-ring, or the "small" one that should go to the 86-88 model?  It just doesn't look right to me, and this is fairly important.  Worst case, I could always get a gasket and put it back the way it was, with the old o-ring.

Thanks,
Rusty (no further aircraft purchased since starting this message)
