Al,

Since Velocity has aFranklinmount in stock, I am leaning towards the approach you took on the engine mount.  Do you have any more pictures of your installation?  Specifically I am looking for more detail on how you attached the block to the mount.  Do you have any vibration isolation incorporated in you arrangement?

Thanks,

Joe;

The engine-to-mount attach plates came from Dave Atkins, and he probably still has those available.  The catch is; the front plate is made to mount to a 12A front cover, which had the engine mounted there.  The rear plate (flywheel end) will bolt to any of the engine versions (I believe; check with Dave).  These incorporate vibration isolation at the outer ends where it bolts to the brackets welded to theFranklinmount.

I dug through my photo archives and found a couple shots that give you a bit of a view of the plates and the mods to the mount.  In addition to adding the brackets to the mount, the mount rails had to be extended forward to handle the length of the 20B.  For the 13B this may not be necessary.  Also, I had the angle of upper support arms from the mount modified to give more spread; i.e. move the attach points further apart at the firewall.

Additional changes I made were that I had to shorten the reach of the mount brackets on the rear, exhaust side to give some clearance to my tangential manifold/muffler.  (I ended up redesigning and making a new rear mount plate after photo was taken).  I also replaced the mount bushings in the rear to a “Barry mount” bushing to better handle transverse loading (the weight of the engine), rather than using the ones supplied with the mount that are designed primarily for axial loading.

Lastly, as you will note on the last photo - because of the horizontal round cross support at the rear of theFranklinmount I had to relocate the starter onTracy’s mount plate.  More pics on that on separate posting.

Hope this helps.

Al

Beautiful work Al. do you have a web page where I could see some more? Jerry
