I'd be really ambivalent about a sprag clutch or any "disengage" mechanism on the grounds of reliability. Seems like gawd awful failure modes.

8*) Not a sprag clutch, Jim. The actual, Mazda stock manual transmission clutch. He was needing weight in the nose, and figured the clutch assembly would help with the torque pulses.
But I whole heartedly agree with your analysis. The entire center of the 'drivetrain' will be swapped out to the automatic transmission setup.
