C&R integrates a 13 plate unit into the
rad.  There are also remote mounted, 22 plate external oil to water
exchangers available.  By using the available duct space for one rad, it
could be 20" X 18" X 2.75"thick.  The duct would have only one core to
provide uniform airflow to. Any thoughts on this?

Hi Joe,

This was my original intent with the RV-3 and that giant radiator.  It had "oil coolers" built into the tank, but they were absolutely crap, nothing more than a single finned tube, so they didn't cool at all.  In my pre-planning for what I'd do with an RV-7 or RV-8, I keep going back to this idea of having only one radiator, and using an oil to water exchanger.  The main thing I'd have to worry about is having a leak that caused your oil and water to trade places.  The C&R unit looks really nice in the pics, and it's priced accordingly, but I'd still quiz them on how durable the oil cooler part is.

Cheers,
Rusty (RV-7 or RV-8... decisions, decisions)
