Rusty, the oil can drain from the rotor into the center housing (even upside down) there is a route for the oil to flow from the center housing to the sump.  It can even flow back without any problem with "Plugs Up" , however, the oil can not drain from the center housing back to the sump if the engine is upside down.  Unless of course, you are using the latest Anti-gravity oil {:>)

I don't think the oil can drain out of the rotors if you go plugs down. Plugs  up-- yes, down-- no.

I have to admit that I never looked at exactly how the oil gets out of the rotors.  Can anyone confirm this?
