Having flow with the system wired for "automatic", can you think of any
situation where it would be useful to be able to crossfeed?

Maybe on a long leg over Tiger country and a high pressure fuel pump
failure. Question is, is it worth the extra complication and area for
failure. Remember KISS.
Use PTFE insulated cable and kiss.
