It's easy to check for a non-running rotor/cylindar.  Crand it up, then spray water (spit works too but I dont think I want to be that close to a spinning prop (I've used up my 9 lives due to prop injuries-ask me at Tracy's if you're curious!!!)) on the header pipes - the pipe that doesn't instantly boil the water off isn't running.
