These are new units that have been mishandled prior to you receiving them? I recently arranged with an air conditioning radiator shop that if he got any GM cores in that I would take them off of his hands. I will use them for form fit. So far I have three cores which were removed from the vehicles leaking in the same location. I thought these units were mounted inside of a molded case so no debris could damage them as well as ducting air to and from them. Could these cores leak because they are mounted incorrectly ( in cars)? Is there a prefered way to mount the cores? Thanks for the info.         Sorry to hear about the leaking core.

First, I'd like to say that Dave Leonard is in big trouble.  He just HAD to say that everything was going well with my plane...  Today's log pasted below, but no flight stuff.

Glassed the new inlet ducts today, and it looks like they re going to come out nice.

Went to the hanger to try a fuel filter, and needle valve on the MAP line to see if that improved the idle.  Rather than use a fixed size restrictor, I used the valve, and tried adjusting it for better idle.  As far as I could tell, it didn t make any difference how far open it was, until it was completely closed, and the engine tried to die.  I m sure throttle response would have suffered at the more closed settings, but I wasn t testing that, particularly since I couldn t improve my idle.  The filter and valve had not noticeable (good) effect on the idle, so I went back to the way it was.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, the oil cooler (evap core)  is now leaking.  I guess it s nice that it happened on the ground, but pisses me off that it happened at all.  The leak is the tank seam at the end of the tank, which was dented when I got the core.  It held for about 30 hours of engine running time, but I guess that s all I get. Let this be a warning.  Don t use damaged cores, even if they seem to hold pressure when you test them.  Fortunately, I have two spares, but unfortunately, one of them is more dented than the one that s leaking.  Guess which one I m using next.  I ve already got the weather stripping and RTV on it for tomorrow, so it won t be a huge delay.
