Because my RD-1B had two drain holes in the front Casting but no drain hole on the gear box spacer. The RC-1C (for conversion in my case) has a drain hole in the spacer. If you note on the photo of Rusty's RD-1B it does not have a hole in the spacer although it sure looks like someone started to make one {:>) Ed Ed Anderson RV-6A N494BW Rotary Powered Matthews, NC ----- Original Message ----- From: To: "Rotary motors in aircraft" Sent: Monday, August 23, 2004 11:41 PM Subject: [FlyRotary] Re: Sorry Rusty - no bind > > That's strange, Ed. My RD-1B has the rear drain hole in the gear box spacer. Maybe Tracy made the change when he went from the A to B drive. > > Dave Leonard > > > > Finally got the gear box out on the aircraft today and the drive shaft slide right in like - well, you know. No binding at all. But, I did find out a unique signature of gearboxes converted from 2.17 to 2.85. You end up with 3 oil drain holes {:>). The 2.17 does not have a drain hole on the gearbox spacer but the 2.85 does. I am sure I am to plug the center hole of (the rear drain hole of the 2.17). But, to make certain I have sent Tracy and e mail to confirm it. Better than finding out in the air I was wrong {:>) > > > > Ed > > > > Ed Anderson > > RV-6A N494BW Rotary Powered > > Matthews, NC > > > > > >> Homepage: http://www.flyrotary.com/ > >> Archive: http://lancaironline.net/lists/flyrotary/List.html >
