Ernest,
My engine is a composite of several different years so I wound up buying both books. They really are complementary to one another. One goes into detail in sections where the other one may not be as detailed. So my advice is to get both.

The Haynes repair manual seems to come in two
flavors.  1985 and before, vs 1986 and after.

Problem is, I don't really know which category this
engine falls into.  It's a 6-port, NA (has the
exhaust splitters).  But how do you tell beyond
that, and does it really matter which book you have
if you're just starting with little more than the
engine block?
