I have personally flown with the AmSafe Airbag Belts in a newer 182T and SR22 3G and have found them to be heavy, stiff, and bulky. In hot weather without Air Conditioning they made me sweat across my lap and felt uncomfortable. In an air conditioned plane they were much better but felt heavy across the lap. With that said, I can say there is no compromise for safety. As in automobiles, air bags are the best technology we have so far to protect you in any type of crash situation.

I have never liked the seat belts in our 4P and with AmSafe have designed an inertia reel system for both the front and back seats. I was tired of having to move the shoulder belt off of my shoulder to change fuel tanks or reach the panel. The other option was to fly with the shoulder belt loose but in a crash situation you need to have the belt very tight with no slack at all to give you the best protection from a deceleration injury. We will be selling our system starting in August 2011 and are working with AmSafe on an airbag system also. Take a look at our website below for pictures, pricing, and installation instructions.
