IMHO the majority of the problems with the VM systems are related to those
silly Faston crimp terminals that they supply and the PVC crap they call wire.
In my installation I replaced all the factory supplied wire with MS Tefzel
shielded cable and soldered EVERYTHING together (I even silver soldered the
EGT and CHT wires). Not a Faston to be found:) Also I did not mount the
pressure sensors on the engine, I did strain relief the cables and shock
mounted the DPU so I am pleased to say that I haven't had any electrical
problems with the system. Having said that it will probably burn down tomorrow
/:()

I have had three other "Problems" which were:

I had an erratic oil pressure indicator after washing the engine due to
getting water in the sensor through the vent port.

I burned the tips off of the stainless EGT probes. The factory warrentied them
with Inconel probes.

The battery in the DPU died after 5 years and I replaced it with a 10 year
battery.

Any data acquisition system is very sensitive to installation variables.
Visions biggest problem is not in the DPU, sensors or displays but in the
wiring and connectors. More and better installation instructions and better
interconnection hardware would go a long way in improving fleet reliability.
You listening Lance???
