A quik comment to Ed and Angier about the Airwolf oil filter.I have one
on my 360.It is also mounted on the firewall.I had a problem with to
much oil pressure on the first blast off of the day.Even if I let the
oil temp go to 120 or so before take off.The pressure was over 100 psi
as recorded by my VM1000.the result was oil blowing out of the oil
filter itself at the oil seal.If you look at the airwolf base plate
where the filter tightens against it it is very narrow.I do not know for
sure if this was a contributing factor or not,but the solution was to
remove all the washers out of the pressure releif valve and in addition
I had to cut two loops off the oil spring.I also went to aeroshell
15/50.Also oil would blow out the back of the prop governor just a
couple of drops during take off.Well I now have no oil leaaks at the
filter and have lowered my pressure down to about 89 at the high side
and 70 in cruise 37 at hot idle.By the way I saw some engine temps
posted here and thought I would give mine for comparison.Max temp  in
climb(95 oat)185 oil temp,380 cyl head(all within 5 degrees) Cruise cyl
temps 332,oil 175-180.I have a sealed plenum for the engine and a
seperate one for the oil cooler.7 vane Harrison mounted right side
forward cowling naca duct into a plenum and out the same side through
louvers.Works great. One last thing about what to mount on the
firewall.I deleted my gascolator and have a inline fuel filter.Lancair
sells it.The engine runs better on the ground without hot gas from the
gascolator. After weighing all the pro and cons I felt the gascolator was
a pretty useless peice of equipment. With the gascolator I was always
getting plugged injector nozzles among other problems(leaks). With the
new fuel filter I have not had these types of problems.
