I did basically what you are suggesting. I recessed the puck into the BL51 rib and did a 3 bid lay-up on the inside of the tank to provide mounting and support for the probe. Also, filled in around the recess with epoxy flox for rigidity to the outer skin. For access to the adjustment screws on the puck, I made an oval shaped hole, about 3/4 x 1 1/4 inch in the BL-50 rib. This hole has to be big enough so that you can see the adjustment screws from the gear well. If not, it would be very difficult to find them in the blind with the end of a screw driver.
