Rob,
Cut the hole through BL 50. I did and this way you can pull the fuel probe
out of the wing without removing the wing. The purpose of the wing rib is
to maintain the constant contour as designed separating the wing top and
bottom which it does very well with built up wood ribs covered with cloth.
Also the lower skin of our Lancair's are structural as opposed to cloth so
strength is not a problem. Provide yourself with plenty of working room to
remove the fuel probes. I have the VM1000 and those 4 foot probes slide out
through the gear legs without any difficulty.
