Jim & Marv -

I used UV Smooth Prime over the gelcoat of a pair of wheel pants for a
Glasair. I Had laid up two layers of glass over the seams of the pants
and had ground off the gelcoat before putting on the glass. I then used
Poly Fiber's Superfill on the seams after sanding/roughing up the glass
layups. I dry sanded the superfill and refilled a few low places,
followed by more dry sanding. Superfill sands very easily.

I then rolled on 3 coats of the UV Smooth Prime. I had some pin holes in
the Super Fill at that point. After letting it dry for a couple of days,
the pin holes were completely filled and I dry sanded it (per their
explicit instructions). I have seen no weave coming through or any other
evidence of shrinking into depressions or pin holes. By wet sanding,
they say that you re-introduce water and that is not good for the curing
of the primer. The primer needs to be in as low a humidity environment
as you can to let the water come out of the primer. In a humid climate,
it has to cure for a longer time. This might be the problem.

I really like the stuff as a primer, but will have to reserve judgment
until I get my ES to see how the prepreg looks/feels/works. I would
anticipate using their Pre Prime product over the bare prepreg skins
before using the smooth prime.

Hope this helps a bit.

My partner and I just ordered a Super ES Fastbuild
