Legacy spar webs and ribs are constructed without cores.  The ribs all have
1.5 inch flanges on one side where they come in contact with skins (unlike
the centered cap strips used in other constructions).

The next most important thing to venting is that the hole placement will not
allow water to enter during flight thru rain or from driving rain while
parked.
