I did on the short mounts and the clearance is tight but workable. the clearance is about 3/8ths inch from the cowling. The battery is not horizontal but is parallel to the top bar. This works fine with gel cell batteries. The longer mounts should be easier and you save the space on the firewall side for other gingerbread and air exhaust. I would advise you blast air into the box to increase life expectancy of the battery. I made a custom clamp to handle the major load and two adel clamps all three clamped to the motor mounts very close to the mount bases and motor mount area. This avoid a bending load on the mid span of the motor mount bar. Be sure the clamps have rubber between the clamp and the motor mount. Another thing we should look for is to avoid using tie wraps to secure wires on our motor mounts. Nylon tie wraps with vibration can work through metal. Not a good idea.
