Don Gordon:

I use a Mitsubishi 55 amp alternator in my 360 that I purchased from
NAPA and it works fine ---now.

Be absolutely sure to compare the specifications of your aircraft
voltage regulator/ovr to that of the alternator you buy because
otherwise you might make the same mistake that I made and that cost me
several aborted flights, several hundred dollars and several dozen
hours.

To my knowledge, there are only two types of vrs and alternators
commonly made anywhere for both airplanes and automobiles.  They are
Type A and Type B and they are not compatible with each other.  Those in
the business of alternator repair can test to determine which is which
but even experts find it difficult to make this important determination
by just examining the nomenclature on the vr and alternators.  If you
have doubts about the compatibility of your vr and alternator, take them
both out of your plane and then to an alternator shop for testing.
