When I went back to look at the problem the following day I realised that the tach pulse generator is offset from the centre line of its drive. This makes it possible for it to be rotated about its drive axis and due to this it will provide the required clearance from the vacuum pump. All is now well although the maximum clearance available is minimal. BUT it does clear. Jim, I love your method for fitting cowlings, really works well. Would work even better if the Lancair top and bottom halves were even anywhere near matching each other at the front. If one side is mated the other side is at least 1/2" out. I feel that this is too much to expect the cowl to spring out and it would leave it with a lot of residual stress. Right now I feel that I will have to put radial cuts in the top cowl forward flange, adjacent to the spinner, to allow the cowl to open up the 1/2" that is needed. I can always glass it up when I have the fit I need. Does anyone have any other ideas? Happy New Year to all.
