Re; Fuel Systems.
Several points to ponder regards modifying Lancair
construction manual directions.
1. Instructions from insurance companys require
authorized inspectors to report deviations from
manual.
That will then disqualify airplane for insurance.
2. A study of accident records show a high percentage
of engine failures (in homebuilts) is due to fuel
system design/modification/contamination.
Any fuel filtration system that doesn't allow a bypass
when clogged with contaminates should be rejected.
No filter should be placed prior to the electric pump.
(You have no way to push fuel through) Standard
gascolators at lowest point of the firewall are best
and should be checked prior to flight.
Vents are also an issue. One (only), and NO yellow
tubing. Recently had a IV with engine problems- engine
hesitation/ leaning etc, etc,. Two fuel pump rebuilds.
Turned out to be Yellow vent hose. (After flying ok
for 5 years).
Bad/sloppily built NACA vent scoops are also problems.

Edges should be sharp- cover over tube should be 1/2".
