Ian I have very limited experience with the primer UV SmoothPrime. Since the previous owner of my ES kit started using the UV SmoothPrime I have continued its use and have now completed all the flying surfaces including priming and sanding so that they are very near ready for finish painting. I used a closed foam roller as recommended by the manufacturer with very good results. If the instructions are followed carefully, the primer goes on quite easily and dries to the touch in less than 1/2 hour and is sandable after 2 hrs. I think this product is wonderful to work with as a primer. No spraying and no equipment cleanup. Very, very sandable. I put on 3 or 4 coats, depending on the condition of the surface, then do the first sanding with 180 grit. Three more coats then sand again with 220 then 320 till all surface pin holes and irregularities are gone. If I have a particularly difficult spot, I may put on an additional 1 or 2 coats in that area and sand till I have the results I want. I just finished my rudder using this process and it is absolutely smoooooooth. I have not yet decided whether I will use their Super Gloss finish paint or a more tried and tested paint of PPG or other. My leanings at this point are away from the water born product in favor of a base coat/clear coat process. One of the reasons is because of the much better color selection available from PPG and others. Hope this helps in your selection.
