Greetings,
I am in the process of installing the factory exhaust (EX-3/4-I) on
my IO-320-D1B engine. Man, this is the tightest exhaust I have ever
seen!! In fact, it is so tight on the left side of the engine that
I have some real concerns about potential rubbing of parts and
excessive heat next to the oil return lines from the cylinders.
Maybe some of you who have "been there" could pass along some advice
on this subject.
Specifically, my concerns are:
1. How to support the tail pipes as they exit the cowling area.
2. How to tighten the inside nut on the left-front cylinder (#2
I think) where the header meets the cylinder -- it seems
impossible to access with a wrench or socket.
3. The exhaust kit came with what appears to be an oil return line,
but I can't figure out if and where I am supposed to use it. The
shape doesn't match up to where the lines need to run.
4. The exhaust pipe runs extremely close (i.e., 1/16") to things
like the rubber sleeves that join the oil pan to the intake pipes
and the oil return line on #4.

If any of you have pictures of your engine installation, in particular
the exhaust on the left side, I would greatly appreciate it.

Dan Olsen
