Thought I'd add my $.02 worth. I use hinges on each side of my cowling (not
across the back) and find they work very nicely and take about 15 seconds
each to install or remove. Mine are aluminum and required some "working in"
at first, but I definitely would use them again.
I installed a threaded bushing at the front end of the cowl and brazed a 3/4
inch long set screw on the front of the hinge pin to lock them in place and
provide a grip for removing them. I drilled the set screw to accept about1/4
inch of the pin before brazing.
