Interesting, Walt: but since I've started using the Tom Cat Pi-- (TCP) added
to my 100LL, I haven't had the "klinker" problem in the REM38BY plugs.
I sure did have it before that, though! On one flight to an airport to fill
up (their gas prices were low enough to warrant a 15 minute flight to buy
fuel) one of my lower plugs collected a hunk of lead big enough to upset my
weight and balance! Upon inspection, it looked like someone had taken a
welding torch and a box of solder to it! and this was just about 10 hours
after my annual where all plugs were cleaned and gapped (they only had about
50 hours on them at the time).
I really don't think the intake parameters have that much to do with the
problem. In talking to some wrenches at FBO's that maintain a lot of
O-235's, it seems to be the consensus that it's more a result of the
combustion chamber configuration and the dynamics therein. Whatever, the TCP
seems to be the answer, so if any of you are having lead-fouling problems
with whatever engine you are flying behind, try this miracle juice. It
REALLY works for me (and others that have started using it, too).
