An interesting comment. Is this because the 150 engine runs fine on autogas,
or because the consequences of failure are not too severe?
I think we've covered a lot of good ground with this thread. EAA says "No
problem". FAA says "statistics show no difference".
Everyone says "don't use gas with alcohol mixed in" although that's mostly
due to chemical incompatibilities with fuel systems that were never intended
for alcohol. IMHO, if you assume that there will be alcohol in there, and
have your sealing materials chosen wisely, there should be no problem.
All of us autogas users say "buy good gas" and some even say "MoGas from an
airport is better".
People may choose to use autogas with engines designed for 80/87 because of
lead fouling with 100LL.
There seems to be a general consensus that little engines on slow airplanes
(ultralights, Cessna 150's) can use autogas, but nobody with a $50,000 "turbo
yada-yada" wants to use it. Is that because the price difference is
inconsequential to the folks who can afford $50K engines, or because they
have more $$$ at risk? I don't know.
Did I miss anything here?
The nice thing about experimentals is that we can decide for ourselves what's
best for us.
