Folks,

Just to let you know that Lancair 320 G-PJMT made its maiden flight from
Exeter Airport, England on 27th September 1998 with Don Goetz in
command. Between the 27th and 30th September we put over 5 hours on her
including 15 landings and a flight of over 2 hours duration. This was a
requirement of our PFA ( equivalent of the EAA ) prior to considering an
application for a full permit. Our CAA ( FAA) test pilot also wished to
check it out during this period and he gave it a clean bill of health.
Don believes she is a good example of the model and was complimentary of
its handling characteristics, speed, and comparatively low noise and
vibration levels for this type. As you can see from the weight she is
not light and soundproofing, 2 AP servos plus a wiring system to allow
HOTAS electric's operation from both sides but not simultaneously all
added to this. However, at gross weight and 2450 x 25" we were still
seeing about 185 knots.

G-MT was an original FB Kit number 263 and was delivered in October
1992. Work started on November 1st 1992 after we had extended our garage
to allow us to fit both wings on at once. Subsequent extensions were
made later in the project to allow the engine to be mounted and the
forward hinging canopy to open up. Along the way we were informed by our
PFA that we would have to fit the Mk II tail and we traded our original
for the first series slow build carbon fibre version.  Some details are
as follows.

Empty Weight: 1219 lbs.
Engine: IO 320 D1B
Propeller: MT 6V Constant Speed
Hotas Grips: Operating Flaps, Aileron and elevator trims, PTT,
Altitude hold and A/P disconnect
Avionics: Narco Mk 12D Navcom with DME readout in GS/Localiser
Dial
Narco DME
Skyforce GPS and moving map
S-Tec Model 50 Autopilot
VM 1000 Engine Management and fuel/temp gauges

Anyone building in or visiting UK are welcome to view at Exeter and
discuss any issues regarding their projects with myself or my Father who
was the real builder of G-MT.

Appreciate the contributions and advice on some of the later issues we
encountered through this forum. Will continue to monitor and post any
useful contributions we might have as we build on our hours.

Regards,

Michael Holland........
