Orin's airplane (the turbo 360 which he has since sold) has truly outstanding
characteristic in the pitch axis.  It flies hands off, has high enough stick
forces that you have to ask it to change it's direction, stays where you put
it, but has the ability to pull G's whenever you want.  This is the airplane
that convinced me that forward CG was what I needed.  The only other Lancair
I've flown in scared me half to death with it's pitch sensitivity and PIO
susceptibility.  Of the two airplanes I've flown, Orin's had the big tail and
a forward CG and the other had a little tail and I don't know the CG.

Orin told me that the new forward CG limit (posted here the other day but was
printed several years ago in the Lancair Newsletter from the factory) was
established using his airplane.

I (and probably others) would appreciate hearing from folks with more time in
more airplanes to hear their opinions, though it will not change my quest to
get the CG as far forward as I possibly can (but not more forward than the
new limit) and my kit came with the big tail anyways.

The factory has spoken with their recommendations, so I don't expect further
input from them at this time.

The conversation with my wife went something like this:  "Honest, honey, I
just HAD to buy the 360 engine, rather than the 320 engine, because it's
heavier.  No, today that's a good thing.  This has NOTHING to do with more
speed, more climb rate, more power.  It's really a CG issue, it's ALL flight
safety!  Really and truly!!!"

No, she didn't believe me, but I've got the 360 anyway.

Concerning MoGas, if you don't think there's a difference, just sniff when
you're filling the tanks.  MoGas reeks, and Avgas hardly smells at all in
comparison.  But I use it anyway in my low-compression Cessna 150.  Too bad I
won't be able to in the Lancair.
