Then I launched off 3 or 4 times with the engine sagging enough to wonder if I was going to make it back to the runway. All the while checking for fuel obstructions, flow testing, tearing down the carb, full ignition check, etc.etc.. Since auto fuel had worked for years why would I suspect it? Which is my point, don't trust the stuff to remain consistent, it isn't worth the few $ saved. One more point, I bought a tank of Conoco Premium and it was so far off spec that my car would detonate very loudly at anything above idle. Avgas can be contaminated as has been well publicized, but the odds are much better. Another example is a friend who bought a RV6 with 400+ hours on it, all on avgas. He has his own strip and also had been running auto gas for years. The engine quit on the first takeoff when auto gas dissolved the fuel tank sealer, sold and recommended by Vans, plugged the screen. Van no longer recommends this sealer (Randolph's solvent based, white sloshing compound) and I don't think Randolph makes it any longer.
