(Mogas is a misnomer since fuel is burned in an engine, not a motor) >>
Since it's hot in the garage ....
I'm not too particular about using motor and engine to mean the same thing
actually. If one were to look in the dictionary you would find:
engine ...
1. any machine that uses energy to develop mechanical power.
2. a railroad locomotive
3. any machine.
Notice no mention is made of gasoline.
Where as the word motor is ....
noun
1. anything that produces motion
2. an engine; esp., an internal combustion engine. ????WHOA ... did they
say a motor was an internal combustion engine????
3. a machine for converting electrical energy into mechanical energy
adv.
1. producing motion
2. of or powered by a motor
3. of, by, or for motor vehicles ?engine vehicles?
4. of or involving muscular motion.
-vi
to travel by automobile.
Motorbike
1. a motor driven bicycle ?battery powered you think?
2. a light motorcycle
Motorboat
a boat propelled by a motor or gasoline engine
?engineboat? I haven't run across any electric powered boats yet ... someone
must think the words motor and engine are interchangeable.
motorcade
an automobile procession
?enginecade?
motorcar
an automobile
?enginecar?
motorcycle
a two wheeled vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine
?enginecycle?
motor home
an automotive vehicle with a truck chassis ...
??is this the same as an engine home?
motorist
one who drives an automobile or travels by automobile
?ENGINIST ... hummmmm ... I like the sound of that?
motorize
to equip with a motor or with motor-driven vehicles.
?engineize?
and the list goes on about motors being highly associated with internal
combustion engines. Ah shoot ... who's interested in what the dictionary says
anyway?
So is it wrong to charactize motor as being driven by gasoline? Although it
sounds funny to say internal combustion motor.
Just some fun with the words we use in describing our aircraft motors ...
uhhhh engines. Use your en-gas to it's fullest potential.
Blue skies ...
