First of all I want to tell all of you that you are crazy to go to an alt
engine other than what was designed for th L-4P. I speak from experience.
First of all I have built a chev V-8 for my L-4 and we will be flying
shortly. we are doing taxy runs now and have been close to lift off but we
had a bearing problem and are now correcting the problem and will fly in
two weeks (baring other problems).. You have to have lots of money to
develop a new engine and most don't have it or take short cuts. If you
are having someone else build your airplane and don't know much about
engines don't use a V-8. You will save money and time using a contential.
From where I sit and I have experiences with engines being in race cars
most of my life I would be very careful about buying a V-8 from anyone.
The Jim Rahm operation has done well but from what I hear the engines are
not forthcoming. My experience with Mr Rahm has be good and he refunded
all of my monies when I decided to go with my own depelopment project. It
takes a LOT of Money to build and design and then all the problems that
will come in testing. I do not advise anyone buying a chev V-8 unless it
is up and running and the builder has the money and ability to produce. I
do not see that out there now.
We have designed an engine that is a little different from Jims and
placement of things like coolers and ducting makes it possible for us to
sit on the runway and run without overheating. We can also change spark
plugs without removing the lower cowling. I have said enough and should
you want to discuss anything about this with me you can call days at
920,720,7080 or evenings 920,734,4919 (central time)
