In response to Tom Thibault:

It sounds like this is preparation for first flight???  Did you build?

Yes, and yes. Would you believe I bought the kit in 1987 and am just now finishing it? In my defense, though, I had a job change, took ten years off to build a house, and had to trailer the plane from FL to NC.

The Sheng Shin tires are fairly new and look perfect to me. I now have 70 PSI in the mains and 42 in the nose.

This morning I'm going to drive out to the hangar and re-check the alignment of the main gear. I'll be surprised if it's off because 15 years ago - before the job change and the house - I did a fast taxi on a long runway with no problems whatsoever with directional control. It taxied straight as an arrow at that time.

Next I'll jack up the plane and check for free tire rotation and turn the nose wheel from side to side to check the resistance of the oleo strut.

Different topic, but since the plane is so old already, almost everything rubber on the airframe and engine has been changed out. All ADs on the engine have been complied with. All the Lancair Service Bulletins have been incorporated.
