By non-standard, I meant a transducer whose electrical parameters do not match the VMS1000 and would, therefore, have to be adapted by additional means such as a voltage divider. That would be going out on a limb and risking unrepairable damage to the DPU. The US321 is a high-quality transducer, whose electrical parameters match the VMS1000 exactly.

I think you answered the question. The US321 may be a lot better than the original MediaMate, but it is not industry standard.
Its advantage is that its a drop in replacement, which will be what some people want. But I would prefer a solution using an industry standard sensor.
