Is it Canopys, Canopies or Canopi?

Anyway, you're probably wondering what all this has to do with P-38's

When it first came out and students were learning to fly, there was this incessant rumor that it was a very dangerous airplane because of its performance on one engine.  If II remember the story correctly, there had been some fatalities after engine failures.

Students began to react negatively towards the airplane and it was causing problems in their training.

Finally, after failing to convince them that it wasn't an issue, one of the instructors took the airplane up in the pattern, killed an engine and rolled the airplane over and and over again in the pattern.

I don't suggest doing' anything as radical as rolling an Legacy with the canopy open, but before we get all excited about the dangers of the Legacy and loosing confidence and spending a bunch and time and money fix ing a problem that may not exist, we really need to gather data, real hard data.

Thanks
Kevin
