Anyway, you're probably wondering what all this has to do with P-38's When it first came out and students were learning to fly, there was this in= cessant rumor that it was a very dangerous airplane because of its performa= nce on one engine. If II remember the story correctly, there had been some= fatalities after engine failures. Students began to react negatively towards the airplane and it was causing = problems in their training. Finally, after failing to convince them that it wasn't an issue, one of the= instructors took the airplane up in the pattern, killed an engine and roll= ed the airplane over and and over again in the pattern. I don't suggest doing' anything as radical as rolling an Legacy with the ca= nopy open, but before we get all excited about the dangers of the Legacy an= d loosing confidence and spending a bunch and time and money fix ing a prob= lem that may not exist, we really need to gather data, real hard data.
