The Pinpoint GADARHS in my Chelton recently stopped
working. When I returned it to Cobham for repair, I also requested the
hardware and software for an update to Version 7 in the Chelton. But
when Cobham sent the repaired GADAHRS and the Version 7 to an authorized
avionics shop for installation, the system would not work.
Fortunately, I live very close to Cobham, which is based in
Mineral Wells, TX. The folks there invited me to bring my plane to them
for the installation. After lots of troubleshooting, Cobham's Keith
Bone determined that the Pinpoint GADAHRS is incompatible with Version
7. Cobham is working on a software fix and in the meantime reinstalled
Version 6, so that I now have a fully functioning system, and will
return the plane for the revised Version 7 when it is ready.
Cobham's Keith Bone, Robert Durall and Chad Howard could not
have been more helpful. They spent a lot of time and effort getting to
the bottom of the problem, and I'm sure will devise a good final fix.
