Bob Pastusek has a great Maintenance Clinic set up with Continental in Fairhope, Alabama March 20-22. Over 30 members have signed up already! Claudette is busy building a new hangar home this year with hubby, Steve, but she is also busy getting our AirVenture banquet locked in (more details below). This year it will at the Best Western in Oshkosh on the Fox River (same location as last year). We have a great guest speaker lined up, and it should be a fun event. A quick reminder: If you would like to address the banquet attendees please contact us in advance. Maintain those skills! I recently ran into an old friend, a just-retired Chief Test Pilot for a major aerospace manufacturer. He asked me what kind of recurrent flight training program he should consider. I replied that now that his military and company flying career is in the rear view mirror he won't have a leadership and scheduling support network tracking his currency; he'll have to do it himself. I suggested a couple of logbook programs or appsthat send out reminders, or he could just do it the old fashioned way and track his flight training program with a calendar. A good technique is to follow corporate or Part 135 operations requirements. That includes a PIC (or flight review) check every 12 calendar months and an instrument proficiency check every 6 calendar months. Do that and you should never be out of legal currency for instrument or day PIC requirements. If you are like most Part 91 pilots it's difficult to stay night and instrument approach current. Some pilots buddy up with another instrument-rated pilot and swap turns flying under the hood. Make it fun and bet a lunch on who can fly the best approach or holding pattern. As a reminder, If you are wearing the view limiting device your buddy is the safety pilot and their name must appear in your logbook as such.
