My point exactly, an inch of ram might get
you 5-10 hp with a 300 hp engine. But a knot or three would be a big
result. I saw that the system is running on hot air from inside the cowl
until it switches to ram. The big kick the pilot sees is probably from
the switch from hot air to cold air and not from the ram effect.

is about 10% more power. The piece of information that is missing is what
was installed on that particular aircraft before this airbox change.
I saw a 5 kt increase going from a really bad filter arrangement (high loss, no
ram) to a really good one (low loss with ram). 3% is quite a
bit, so test conditions might be a bit suspect.
