Hi Valin,

I've got IO-550N with 20amp alternator on accessory pad.  No problems with noise from the alternator at all.  I did not take any special precautions about wiring.  In the pic:  Firewall at left, engine at right, looking down from above.  All the transducer signal lines are in the two big cannon connectors running right next to the power grid and the power penetrations of the firewall.  Alternator at the top.  I fly a G900+Sorceror in IFR all the time and everything works perfectly.  I've killed the primary alternator and tested on the backup with no discernable difference.

Subject: Standby Alternator Electrical Noise?

LML gang,

We have a standby alternator (B&C SD-20S) mounted on the accessory pad of our IO-550N engine.  It’s near the top center of the firewall near where we’d like to run a bunch of wires through the firewall.

Has anyone with this configuration and wiring running nearby had any problems with electromagnetic interference when the alternator is running?  How much do we need to avoid running wires near it?

Thanks,

Valin Thorn
