George,
"So what works well for the money?"
Well, I haven't yet been torn away from my good old 100W GE 4509.
Mine are lasting about two years. At only $10 a pop it is hard to justify LED on a cost basis.
For position lights etc., I'm there.
I have also wondered about the temperature ratings of 70 deg C (158 deg F) Lower cowl temps will be about 100 deg F over ambient.

All,
Realizing that I need a better landing light as the VW fog/driving light doesn't quite make it. I am definitely impressed with LED for low amperage, low heat, and increased brightness. I only have the option for one light in the cowling. I have seen a number of varieties in the varying online aircraft supply places with the same amount of variety in prices.
So what works
well for the money?
